Divine Appointments

Shameless plug:  Go to a writers’ conference like “Breathe” (Grand Rapids, MI area).

I spend so much time wondering when God is going to do something in my life, when will the miraculous take place?  Utterly foolish and blind!  Then, when I finally see His hand, His mighty loving hand, do I shout out my hallelujahs, cry, “THANK YOU!” to  the heavens.  Oh no!  At that point, I’m overwhelmed and terrified that I will not live up to the perceived expectations, that they will see me (whoever ‘they’ are in the first place) and know that they made a mistake.

Yes, God does work.  God is constantly working on my behalf, on your behalf.  He cares for us and reaches into our lives eternally, completely in love and grace.  He does not grow tired or weary.  His mercies are new every morning.  Great is His faithfulness.  We hear these things in scripture but still wonder what to do when God blesses.

It is not up to you.  It is not up to me.  It never was.

God declared that He is the I Am.  Jesus said that he was, “the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end.”  Paul stated, “He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.”  Did you hear that?  COMPLETE IT.  That means that for all our searching for His answers, all our cries for help when life doesn’t make sense, all the people he sends into our lives, all the blessings that He showers on us are part of the completion of His plan.

Does it shock you to hear that He is completing His plan?  I think, if I am honest, that it shocks me.  The God of the Universe may not even consider my plans as he orders the cosmos.  His plan included me, I can’t begin to comprehend that.  It includes you.  Amazing!

But it isn’t our plan.  The appointments He makes were decided on long before I was born.

My mind is blown.

He saw His child, all His children, and knew what to do with them.

Cause for worship.  Cause for rest.
